FWD FROM FOR OUR FUTURE PAC: NextGen Climate, AFL-CIO, AFSCME, AFT, and NEA Create Long Term Progressive Political Action Committee

For Our Future PAC to focus on working families

Washington—Today, NextGen Climate; AFL-CIO; American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees; the American Federation of Teachers; and the National Education Association announced the creation of For Our Future PAC. The initiative will incorporate issue advocacy and a robust electoral program in key battleground states to mobilize working families on creating shared economic prosperity, building strong public schools, addressing climate change and supporting racial justice. NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer pledged to contribute matching funds to the PAC.

“We are building organizational capacity for the long haul.  While we want to win in our election fights, we have an eye towards building a diverse organization and coalition at the community level to work together and stay together over the course of time,” said Amanda Brown, Campaign Director of For Our Future.  “Our model is to respect, empower and include communities of color and all organizations who want to work with us on a shared agenda and shared electoral goals.  When they succeed we succeed and we all win.”

“The partners in this effort are on the front lines of fighting for our future and I am glad to be creating this new initiative with them. With so much at stake this election, it is critical that we empower those who are most impacted by decisions on the critical issues facing our families and this new partnership will make sure that their voices are heard,” said NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer.

“We must elect champions for working people and put urgent issues facing our communities front and center this election cycle and beyond. The labor movement is proud to lead this effort with coalition partners like Tom Steyer and NextGen,” said Lee Saunders, President, AFSCME.

“Elections are about the future we see for ourselves, our families and our communities. This effort is one step to engage our members and allies and connect the aspirations of working people—like quality neighborhood  public schools, access to affordable health care and a fair chance to get ahead—to actions that can help realize those aspirations,” said Randi Weingarten, AFT President.
