NextGen America Celebrates Welcome Week on College Campuses Across the Country

Youth voting organization unleashes student voting power through registration and engagement on college campuses across the country

Washington, D.C. — Today, NextGen America announced the commencement of its Welcome Week initiative, dedicated to fostering engagement and registering college students as they reconvene on campuses during the months of August and September. Operating across states such as Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia, NextGen’s dynamic team of more than 38 field organizers is orchestrating a presence at over 45 college campuses. This strategic effort aims to equip young voters with essential resources in preparation for upcoming local elections in 2023 and the pivotal national election in 2024.

Throughout the course of Welcome Week, passionate NextGen America organizers and dedicated volunteers will be hosting a series of voter registration events on prominent campuses, including the University of Arizona, William and Mary, and Villanova, among other institutions. These Welcome Week gatherings are meticulously designed to forge connections with incoming students and to provide vital local voting information, ensuring that those new to the community are well-informed participants in the democratic process.

“Data shows that college towns across the country are turning out and showing up like never before in both local and national elections,” NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez said. “NextGen America is excited to celebrate Welcome Week and usher in a new wave of young voters to campus. From Nevada to Virginia, NextGen is building up the democratic power of young people and helping them realize the power of their voice to create change. We could not be more excited to kick off this school year and get to work in our communities.”

NextGen’s 2023 Welcome Week campaign follows its historic work in 2022 to educate, mobilize, and register young voters across seven key states. These efforts contributed to blocking a much-predicted Republican ‘red wave,’ and underscored young voters as a powerful voting bloc in the country. As one of the nation’s largest multiracial, multicultural, multigenerational organizations uplifting the voices of the youth civic engagement movement, NextGen is proud to organize across the country leading up to 2024 to build a nation that respects, reflects, and represents us.
