Young People Respond to HELP Committee Hearing on Youth Mental Health

In response to the United States Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, chaired by Sen. Bernie Sanders, holding a hearing to examine the American youth mental health crisis, NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez released the following statement:

“NextGen America applauds the Senate HELP Committee, chaired by Senator Bernie Sanders, for meeting today on one of the most pressing issues of our time – young peoples’ mental health. As a record number of young people are in need of mental health care, the demand for additional child psychiatrists and resources has never been higher. We are at an inflection point for the way our communities interact, support, and take care of each other, and it is time for our elected officials to take mental health seriously through policy action.

“We know that young people’s mental health and wellbeing includes addressing the climate crisis, economic inequality, and protecting our rights, and we look forward to seeing the ideas, solutions, and proposals following today’s committee hearing.”
