Young Voters Respond to Launch of the Most Affordable Student Loan Repayment Plan Ever

In response to the Biden-Harris administration launching the SAVE Plan, NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez released the following statement:

“For the past decade, young voters have been at the forefront of the movement for student loan debt reform, and today we are seeing this fierce advocacy come to fruition. With the Biden-Harris administration’s introduction of the SAVE Plan, over 20 million borrowers across the country will have their payments on undergraduate loans cut in half, bringing many borrowers’ loan payments to zero dollars per month.

“By taking bold action to address student loan forgiveness and repayment options, the administration has shown its commitment to providing life-changing relief to those in need, helping to alleviate the financial stress that has hindered the progress of countless individuals. Today’s action is a powerful step forward towards fixing our broken student loan system and making college more affordable, and shows the administration’s responsiveness to the demands of young voters, particularly on the issue of student loan debt, racial equity, and economic advancement.

“Young voters will continue to apply pressure and demand change, and we look forward to continuing our progressive movement through additional calls to action and policy reforms. Contrary to MAGA Republicans across the country, Democrats are fostering a sense of empowerment and collective action among young people, empowering them to be catalysts for positive change. They are listening to our movement, and we will continue to remain strong in our commitment to progress to build a country that respects us, reflects us, and represents us.”
