Young Voters Respond to President Biden Canceling Student Debt for More Than 30 Million Americans

In response to the Biden Administration’s announcement on student debt, NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez released the following statement:

“One of the reasons young voters elected Joe Biden was to deliver much-needed student debt relief. Education should be a tool for empowerment, not a source of financial strain. Today’s announcement and this new student debt cancellation plan is a game-changer that, taken collectively with the previous actions of this Administration, will help close the racial wealth gap and assist those with the most debt and highest interest rates.

“Young people have been at the forefront of this movement, pushing for student debt reform and more widespread cancellation. This is another step in our fight for true economic justice, and we won’t stop here. By delivering additional cancellation, the economy would benefit – as more people would have the opportunity to invest, buy a home, save for retirement, and start small businesses. Today’s action works towards this future and is the right thing to do. Young voters have been leading the way and we will continue to push our leaders for more until our education system and our economy works for all of us.”
